The Beat commences at the junction of the Tay & Isla Rivers and extends for approximately 1.7 miles upstream. With 13 pools, including the prolific Islamouth and Castle Pools, fly fishing is rewarded throughout the year, while spinning always remains an option.
The beat has not been as well fished as most others and currently delivers well under its true potential. Having acquired the beat in November 2013, Meikleour Estate is greatly looking forward to working to restore it to its rightful position.
Set in the midst of the grounds of Meikleour House, the trees provide a serene and beautiful backdrop in which to pursue the King of Fish. With both wading and fishing from the boat available, we welcome the expert and novice alike and can provide tuition if required.
Right from opening day through to late spring, shimmering, sea liced salmon, often of over ten pounds, are caught as they make their way to the furthest tributaries. The grilse run normally starts in July and continues through to the end of the season, while the larger late running fish start in August.
We have fly and spinning rods available for guest use and our ghillies are always happy to advise in advance of your trip on the best tackle for the conditions.
